In the same week that the Brisbane Writers Festival 2023 kicks off, Hibiscus Three is reminded that On This Day (#OTD) 2022, World Beyond: An Anthology of Papua New Guinean Speculative Fiction debuted at the Brisbane Writers Festival 2022.
Published under the inaugural Hibiscus Three Anthology Series Award, Dr Kirsten McGavin was awarded the opportunity to develop, lead and edit a book project to include writing by Papua New Guineans.
From book concept to book sales, World Beyond has captured the attention and sparked interest from across the globe, wishing for a glimpse into the imagination of Papua New Guinean writers delve into time and space travel, futuristic worlds and hidden cities, all combined with elements of magic, kastom, tokpeles, history, legends and mythology.
Not only have the 9 contributing authors of #World Beyond delivered an outsanding volume of speculative fiction, Editor Dr McGavin teamed up with Papua New Guinean Artist of Instagram handle/ @unofficial_jcob to bring Tawine Iles-Vauk of anthology short-story, The Other Side of DeBarge, to postcard/ bookmark life.
